new Pigment feature

In a context where analytics and planning models are becoming increasingly complex, Pigment is introducing a strategic feature to simplify data access management: dimension replacement in access rights rules.

This new feature marks a major step forward in optimising model security and improving performance, particularly for organisations processing high volumes of data.

Simpler, faster, more flexible security

Dimension replacement makes it possible to define access rights at an aggregated level (for example, region) and apply them automatically at a more detailed level (for example, country), thanks to a mapping mechanism. The result: a significant reduction in the number of required security metrics, lighter models, and faster recalculation times.

This approach also provides greater flexibility in security modelling, particularly through support for hierarchical or customised relationships between dimensions.

Practical application examples

1. From region to country

In a model where each country is linked to a region through a list property, rights can be defined at the region level. Pigment then automatically applies these rights to the associated countries, without needing to create a second metric for the country level.

2. From Business Unit to employee by month

In an HR use case where employees regularly change Business Unit, a single User x Business Unit metric can now be used to manage rights at the Employee x Month level, thanks to dimension replacement. This avoids creating a metric that is much more cumbersome to calculate and maintain.

Note: the mapping used for replacement must be stored in the “Security” folder of the Pigment environment.

Performance benefits

The benefits are particularly visible in models with high-cardinality dimensions. By reusing a single metric across several dimensions:

  • You avoid costly calculations,

  • You reduce the total volume of data processed,

  • And you significantly accelerate model loading.

A typical example: it is now possible to replace a metric covering dozens of Business Units, hundreds of months and thousands of employees without making the model more cumbersome.

A wide range of use cases

This feature is aimed at many sectors and functions:

  • Supply Chain: restrict access by geographical area or product category.

  • Finance: control access to budget data according to organisational structures.

  • Human Resources: link access to salaries or projects based on roles or teams.
