At its DevCon 2026 event, Workday announced a new step in its data openness strategy with the upcoming integration of Workday Data Cloud with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This collaboration aims to simplify access to Workday HR and financial data for developers and data teams, while preserving the governance and security requirements specific to critical business processes.
The stated objective is clear: to enable companies to use their Workday data more easily in their artificial intelligence, advanced analytics and automation projects, without having to duplicate the data or rebuild complex integration mechanisms.
Simplified access to HR and financial data
With this new integration, AWS users will be able to access governed Workday data directly from the services and tools they already use. The approach is based on a so-called “zero-copy” model, which makes it possible to use data without moving or replicating it in another environment.
Developers will therefore be able to connect AI services such as Amazon Bedrock to Workday data while preserving the associated business definitions, calculation rules and access controls. This approach aims to improve the quality of the analyses produced by applications and artificial intelligence agents.
According to Workday, this integration should enable technical teams to spend more time creating high-value solutions rather than setting up and maintaining complex data infrastructures.
Data governance integrated into AI projects
One of the main challenges of enterprise artificial intelligence concerns the reliability of the data used to power models and autonomous agents.
In this context, Workday highlights its platform’s ability to carry essential governance elements along with the data: access rights, business logic, metric definitions and audit mechanisms.
Agents developed on AWS will therefore be able to access payroll, benefits and financial management data through Workday Agent Gateway, while complying with the security policies already in place in the Workday environment.
This approach aims to reduce the risks associated with data misinterpretation and strengthen confidence in decisions made by artificial intelligence systems.
Three technology components now available
The announcement also highlights the first components of Workday Data Cloud, currently available through an early adoption program.
Workday Data Lake
This solution provides a unified view of Workday HR and financial data, enriched with data from third-party systems. The objective is to offer a consistent, contextualized source of information for analytics projects and AI initiatives.
Workday Data Connect
Workday Data Connect enables companies to access Workday data from their preferred cloud platforms and analytics tools through a bidirectional architecture without data duplication.
The AWS integration adds to a list that already includes major partners such as Databricks, Snowflake, Salesforce and Google Cloud.
Workday Live Data Query
This feature provides near-real-time access to Workday data through standards such as SQL, JDBC or Python. Applications and AI agents can therefore use up-to-date information to support more responsive decision-making processes.
A strategy focused on the AI ecosystem
Beyond the technological announcement, this integration illustrates Workday’s desire to strengthen its position in the enterprise artificial intelligence landscape.
By facilitating access to governed HR and financial data from the main cloud environments on the market, the vendor is seeking to accelerate the development of intelligent applications capable of interacting with an enterprise’s most sensitive business processes.
This opening toward AWS also confirms a broader trend observed across the industry: the growing convergence between enterprise management platforms, cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence technologies.
Broader availability by the end of the year
Workday Data Lake, Workday Data Connect and Workday Live Data Query are currently being offered to a limited group of customers as part of an early adoption program. General availability is expected during the year.
The AWS integration is currently being rolled out and should gradually become accessible to customers participating in the various early access programs.
Through this initiative, Workday is continuing its strategy of transforming HR and financial data into a trusted foundation for new generations of analytics applications and artificial intelligence agents.
