Pigment is enhancing its automation capabilities with the launch of Hybrid mode for Data Flows. This new feature makes it possible to combine operations executed sequentially with others launched in parallel within the same flow. The aim is to simplify process management and reduce execution times, while maintaining a consistent order between steps that depend on one another.
More flexible Data Flow execution
In Pigment, Data Flows make it possible to group multiple Data Actions within the same configuration. These actions can be used, in particular, to import data, refresh metrics or support planning and reporting processes. They can be triggered from a dashboard, scheduled or monitored in the execution history.
Until now, users could organize these processes in two main modes. Parallel mode launches multiple actions simultaneously, while sequential mode executes them in a predefined order. The new Hybrid mode combines these two approaches within a single Data Flow.
In practical terms, the steps run one after another, but each can contain multiple actions executed simultaneously. This setup preserves dependencies between processes while avoiding unnecessary waits for independent operations.
Potential time savings for financial processes
This development may be particularly relevant to finance teams using Pigment to automate their reporting, budgeting or forecasting cycles.
For example, after financial data is imported, several processes can be launched in parallel to refresh metrics or calculate forecasts. A subsequent step can then use the results required to prepare the reporting.
With Hybrid mode, this logic can be configured in a single Data Flow, without having to distribute operations across multiple flows solely to combine sequential and parallel executions.
However, the time savings will depend on the structure of the processes, the volume of data and the dependencies between actions. The main benefit is enabling an organization better suited to the needs of each process.
A configuration that retains existing controls
Hybrid mode integrates with the configuration options already offered by Pigment. Users can define how the Data Flow behaves when an action fails: stop subsequent steps or continue executing the remaining actions.
Steps can also be rearranged using drag and drop. Once configured, the Data Flow can be triggered from a dashboard, scheduled and monitored in the execution history, subject to the required permissions.
With this new feature, Pigment is increasing the flexibility of its automation mechanisms. Hybrid mode gives companies a more direct way to structure their Data Flows, with a clear objective: simplify data processing and improve operational efficiency.
