In finance teams, creating and maintaining calculation models can quickly become complex. Between the many data points to consider, the business rules to follow and the formulas that need to evolve, these tasks require time and a good command of the tools being used. To make this work easier, Cube is enhancing its formula editor to make financial modelling simpler, clearer and more accessible to teams.
An editor that supports users in their calculations
The new version of this editor supports users as they write their financial formulas, without requiring them to memorise every function or syntax rule. As they type, suggestions appear for dimensions, members, functions and elements corresponding to the calculation they are looking for. This assistance makes it possible to build formulas progressively and limit input-related errors.
Formulas that are easier to read and manage
The editor also includes a colour-coding system that makes formulas easier to read and helps identify incorrect references. Users can insert mathematical, logical or time-based functions, as well as perform calculations using data tables. For longer formulas, a formatting tool improves the presentation and organisation of the various elements, particularly when several conditions or functions are nested.
Better control over calculation rules
Beyond data entry, Cube allows users to specify the rules governing calculations. In particular, teams can determine the scenarios to which a formula applies and choose the aggregation method for the results, according to their needs. A plain-language description can also be associated with each formula to explain its purpose and make it easier for other users to understand.
Time savings for finance departments
These enhancements address a tangible challenge for finance departments: making models easier to build, verify and update. A well-structured and documented formula facilitates knowledge sharing within the team and reduces reliance on the people who originally designed the model.
Integrated directly into Cube’s workspace, the new editor builds on existing practices. Previously created formulas remain compatible, and users can continue to use their results in their spreadsheets and reports.
With this enhancement, Cube continues to improve its financial planning and analysis environment. The objective is to simplify the technical tasks that occupy teams, so they can devote more time to analysing results, preparing forecasts and supporting business decisions.
