Cube simplifies transaction analysis with its new Drilldown

Cube launches Drilldown, a Spreadsheet App feature that links a consolidated value to the transactions that make it up. Analyses can be created from a cell or filters, saved, refreshed, and modified. Results respect access rights, with a limitation when the data volume becomes too large.

Cube Drilldown

Cube enhances the analytical capabilities of its Spreadsheet application with a new feature called Cube Drilldown. It enables users to move from a consolidated value in a spreadsheet to the transactions that make it up, providing a better understanding of the origin of financial data.

Move from a figure to the transactions that make it up

In reporting and financial performance management tools, an amount displayed in a table does not always provide immediate access to the underlying detail. With Cube Drilldown, users can select a cell in the Spreadsheet App and request the transactions corresponding to that value.

Cube then opens a new tab containing the transaction details and saves this analysis as a dedicated range. Users can therefore return to the same analysis later without having to repeat the process.

This approach provides a more granular view of the data. Rather than limiting themselves to a consolidated value, users can examine the elements that make it up.

Build an analysis directly from filters

Cube also enables users to create a Drilldown without starting from an existing figure. The user selects the “Transactions” mode, then defines the dimensions and members to use as filters before retrieving the data.

In this mode, the areas usually dedicated to rows and columns are hidden. The selections directly define the scope of the analysis, and Cube returns the transactions at the most detailed level available.

This option can be particularly useful for targeted analyses when users already know the scope of the transactions they want to examine.

Refresh data without rebuilding the analysis

Another benefit of Cube Drilldown is that it operates as a saved range. Once the analysis has been created, users can select it again and use the “Fetch Data” function to retrieve the current data.

There is therefore no need to recreate the Drilldown when the source data changes. The saved filters serve as the definition for the new extraction.

Filters can also be modified. Users can select a dimension, change the relevant members, and then retrieve the data again to define a new transaction scope.

A feature integrated into the Spreadsheet environment

Cube positions this enhancement within its approach to performing financial work directly in spreadsheets. Drilldown operates like a standard application range: it has its own definition, can be renamed or deleted, and appears in the range selector.

Access to the results is also governed by existing permissions. Cube states that Drilldown results are filtered according to the user's data access scope, meaning users can only view transactions they are already authorized to access.

A tool for deeper financial analysis

Cube Drilldown is therefore designed to bring consolidated data and its level of detail closer together directly within the work environment used for analysis.

The feature can be useful in various reporting or FP&A scenarios when users want to understand the composition of an amount, verify the underlying transactions, or regularly refresh a detailed analysis.

However, Cube has a limit when the requested data volume becomes too large. In this case, the company recommends in particular reducing the filter scope, for example by limiting the period being analyzed.

With this enhancement, Cube continues to develop its analytical capabilities in Spreadsheet, focusing on the link between consolidated data and the transactions that underpin it.
