Faced with a demanding regulatory environment and increasingly rapid economic developments, the Banca di Asti Group embarked on a transformation of its financial and strategic planning processes. To support this initiative, the Italian bank chose the Board platform to centralise and integrate its planning activities within a single environment.
A constantly evolving banking environment
Over the past fifteen years, the Banca di Asti Group has experienced sustained growth. In 2024, the institution managed more than €30 billion in assets, served more than 540,000 customers and exceeded €25 billion in gross banking income.
This expansion has been accompanied by increasing complexity in management and performance steering processes. Between regulatory requirements, the growing volume of data to analyse and the need to produce reliable forward-looking scenarios, legacy tools were reaching their limits.
Until 2021, a large part of planning activities relied on spreadsheets. While these tools offered a certain degree of flexibility, they made process governance, change tracking and group-wide information consolidation more difficult.
Building truly integrated planning
To address these challenges, Banca di Asti launched a project to bring forecasting, budgeting and strategic planning processes together on a single platform.
The bank selected the Board solution to implement an integrated architecture based on a dedicated data warehouse and a single foundation for performance management.
Thanks to this approach, teams now have a shared environment for developing budgets, forecasts and strategic plans, while relying on the same calculation rules, data and interfaces.
The project was carried out over approximately eighteen months, including the design, development, testing and change management phases.
Improved governance and enhanced data quality
The implementation of Board enabled the banking group to significantly improve the governance of its planning processes. Responsibilities, approvals and interactions between the various functions are now better structured and easier to trace.
Data quality is also one of the project’s main benefits. The standardisation work carried out has resulted in more consistent and reliable information, facilitating analysis and speeding up decision-making.
The platform also provides greater capacity to manage large volumes of data and quickly perform simulations of economic or regulatory scenarios. This agility enables the bank to adapt its plans more effectively to market developments.
Artificial intelligence at the heart of the next steps
Having consolidated its planning and management control processes, Banca di Asti intends to continue its transformation by making greater use of the platform’s artificial intelligence capabilities.
In particular, the institution plans to use these features to refine the definition of sales targets for its branches, improve operational performance and identify the corrective actions required more quickly when certain indicators deviate from established targets.
This new step illustrates the group’s determination to further strengthen its capacity for anticipation and decision-making in a constantly changing banking sector.
